Good Bye Denver

After the start of the dramatic off season in Denver where Jay Cutler wanted to be traded, it's finally coming down to an end. Denver Broncos CEO and President, released the following statement today:

"Numerous attempts to contact Jay Cutler in the last 10 days, both by Head Coach Josh McDaniels and myself, have been unsuccessful. A conversation with his agent earlier today clearly communicated and confirmed to us that Jay no longer has any desire to play for the Denver Broncos. We will begin discussions with other teams in an effort to accommodate his request to be traded."

We at SportsDaily will keep you updated if anything new comes up. Tomorrow I'll be posting a blog outlining which teams should look into acquiring Cutler. Until tomorrow then.

Flyers Win A Tough One

Philadelphia Flyers played New York Islanders tonight, and it was a good game. It started out very physical and stayed that way the whole game. Powe got the physicality started by hitting an Islander early in a game and getting in a fight with Weight. Then the escaped luckily out of the first period down only a goal after the second "goal" got waived off for being .1 second late past the crease. Second period the Flyers where down for all it 2-0, but they didn't let the Isles keep momentum with their lead. They instead fought three times in the second period. The three fights where spread out over a 3 minute period of time. Started with Carcillo beating Thompson, then Cote and Rechlicz in a draw after about two minutes of a scrum, and then finished with Asham and Jackman and Asham won that one. Flyers finished the period strong to take all the momentum into the third period. Flyers jumped out early in the third. Lupul cut the down to one(1-2), then Hartnell tied the game up(2-2), and then Lupul scored the goal to give the Flyers the lead 3-2. The Isles tied the game up only 30 seconds later. No one scored after that in the third so they went to overtime. No one scored in overtime so they went to shoot out. In the shoot out which Briere put the Flyers up 1-0 in that. Then Nielsen tied it 1-1 in shootout. Then Richards put in the goal to go up and win the game 2-1. Biron stoped the last Islander in shootout for the win. Flyers get two much needed points and Isles get one point.
Stars of the Game:
Star 1 - Joffrey Lupul
Star 2 - Mike Richards
Star 3 - Radek Martinek

Gonzalez Wants Out

Tony Gonzales who has spent his entire hall of fame career in Kansas City wants out. Kansas City who is rebuilding could use this to their advantage. They could get a draft pick and a good player or several good draft picks. They are several good teams that could use him. Other teams with young tight ends that could use the leadership and teachings of Gonzalez. I wonder how this will play out. Well, all we can do is sit back and watch.

Tiger's Game Coming Back

After a disappointing loss in the second round of match play in his first tournament back. Then a disappointing ninth place finish last match at Doral. Tiger is hoping to get his first win, since he's come back from the knee surgery. Tiger is behind 3 strokes today which is the best he's been since returning off the knee surgery. Let's see how he does this weekend. He was putting well today but not hitting long well. That's alright though, because all of this practice tournaments are getting him ready for the Masters just around the corner.

March Madness Moves Forward

After a 3 day break from any games in the national tournanment. Tonight the nation finally gets to see some more of what makes this the best time of year for sports. Probably the best sporting event in America, every year. This year there hasn't been any real cinderall move on past the second round. Arizona made it and they where a number 12 seed but they had a pretty easy march through the first two rounds for them. Beating Utah in the first round and then beating cinderalla Clevelnad St. that knocked off Wake Forest in the first round. Duke vs. Nova will be a game to watch tonight probably the best out of tonights game. Uconn vs. Purdue shouldn't be close, bight might be if Uconn is off. Xavier vs. Pitt, I don't think Xavier has the strenght and the inside to compete with Pitt. Mizzou vs. Memphis, I think that Memphis should roll over Mizzou.

With The Ninth Pick in the NFL Draft the Green Bay Packers Select...

Just thought I'd post a quick note for any of my fellow Packers fans out there. We've all been hoping that University of Texas defensive end Brian Orakpo would be the man that we take in the draft in April. It was reported by Espn.com that Packers President and CEO Ted Thompson was at the University of Texas pro day where star defensive end Brian Orakpo was among the players working out there.

Orakpo finished last year with 38 tackles 16.5 of which were for a loss, and added 11.5 sacks and hurried the quarterback 15 times and forced 4 fumbles. Orakpo is projected to become an outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme, which is what the Packers will be switching over to this year.

Primetime Week One Games Released by the NFL

First, let me start of by apologizing for not writing in a few weeks. I've been slacking. Second, let's get down to business.

Monday morning (March 24th) the NFL released a round of week one prime time games along with the schedule for Thanksgiving Day. Here they are if you haven't seen them yet.

The Cinderella story of last year the Tennessee Titans and defending Super Bowl champions will kick off Thursday September 10th on NBC at 8:30 Eastern Standard Time.

Sunday night September 13th at 8:30 E.S.T. NBC will feature the 178th meeting between the most storied rivalry (and my personal favorite). The Chicago Bears (Da Bears) will be traveling up to Titletown, USA to visit the Green Bay Packers. This is the game I'm most excited about watching all year. (GO PACK GO!)

Also on Monday night September 14th at 7:00 E.S.T. on ESPN Tom Brady will make his return under center for the New England Patriots as Terell Owens and the Buffalo Bills come into town.

Following that game on ESPN at 10:15 San Diego will be visiting the Oakland Raiders who hope to start new in their 2009 season. They posted at least 11 losses in each of their last five seasons.

Also, the league released the schedule for the customary Thanksgiving Day games. Rumors flew in the off season that the NFL was threatening to rebuke the Lions traditional game after they posted the first ever 0-16 record last year. The Packers come into town which was at one time a tradition when the Packers met the Lions from 1951-1963. This will be on FOX at 12:30 P.M.

The Raiders will also be visiting the T.O.less Dallas Cowboys that day. The game will be on CBS at 4:15.

On NFL Network that night, the New York Giants will be trekking out west to visit a possible new quarterback under center for the Denver Broncos if Jay Cutler is traded in the Off Season. The game will air at 8:20.

USA Back In Contention

After a humilating loss to Puerto Rico the other night. USA knocked out Puerto Rico last night with a 6-5 win in the 9th. David Wright hit the single that drove in two runs. Tonight it's Venezuela vs. USA at 7 p.m. this should be an exciting game. Then later at 11 p.m. tonight Cuba vs. Japan, loser is eliminated game will be on. That should be a good one also.

NCAA Men's Bracket

Three Big East teams are seeded number one and then UNC by it's self as only ACC team number 1. We have a group on espn.com that you can join to be apart of our tournament challenge.
http://games.espn.go.com/tcmen/group?entryID=1343853&groupID=59562
I personally only have 1 number one getting to the final four.

Lefty wins Doral, Tiger comes in 9th....

Phil Mickleson should be really happy with his win in Doral. Tiger on the other hand said going into the weekend if he didn't win then he wouldn't be happy. I wonder if they has changed or if he is disappointed with his finish, after coming off knee surgery. Tiger true to form didn't come back on that statement he said going into the weekend. Tiger said "I'm very happy with the way I played; I didn't say the way I finished, but the way I played." That's just good old Tiger for you. As soon as his putter comes back to him. He'll dominate tournaments like old times.

Rollins Leads Team USA to Win.

Team USA stomped Team Netherlands yesterday, 9-3. Bouncing back from an embarrassing loss to Team Puerto Rico in Team USA's previous game.

Pitcher Roy Oswalt picked up the win.

Jimmy Rollins provided the spark Team USA needed to get the job done, providing four RBIs, on a homer, a triple, and a sac fly.

New comer, Brian Roberts, filling in for the injured Dustin Pedroia, chipped in going 3-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Facing elimination with one more loss Team USA will face off next against the loser of Venezuela and Puerto Rico, with a win advancing them to the semifinals of the World Baseball Classic.

NHL GM's Need Help

http://msn.foxsports.com/nhl/story/9319166/NHL-GMs:-We-need-to-rein-in-some-of-the-fighting

NHL GM's want to get rid of some of the fighting? You can't take any of the fighting out of the NHL it's part of the game. Staged fights are just as important to the game as to standing up for yourself getting hit or standing up for a star of the team.

Certain players only make it to the pro's to stand up for the stars of the team. You can't take it out of the game. The fighters in the league know the rules. They know when teams need that boost so they fight and try to get their team the edge.

I don't disagree with giving a player a instigation penalty if they try to purposely get someone to fight them or for right off the face off. Though if two men are ready to go I don't see why they can't just throw down and get the teams/players disagreement over with.

I hope I never have to see fighting leave the game, but with some of the GM's not being fight fans. I can only hope that they understand the importance and keep it in the game.

Another Eagle Gone, Carbonneau gone

William "Tra" Thomas signed with the Jaquars yesterday. That is another player of the Eagles who was with the team their whole career until now gone. Even though Tra is a veteran the Eagles will most likely not miss him, with all the lineman the Eagles have sitting around after Reid drafts more and more each year. The Eagles even have two first rounders this year. Don't be surprised if one of them goes towards another Tackle. On another note Guy Carbonneau the Canadiens coach was fired yesterday and the GM is taking over once again. I understand why with the Canadiens steadily droping out of playoff contention. Blaming it all on the coach though is pretty bad. Though it worked well for the Penguins firing their headcoach Michel Therrien(ex-Canadien coach also), bringing in a new one brought a new life to the team. Both coaches took their teams to the playoffs last year and Penguins coach even took them to Stanely Cup finals.

Sixers Trying to Make Playoff Push

Since the All-Star Break the Sixers are 3-6. They are still in the seventh playoff spot being only 30-30 and 18 games behind, with the Pistons only .5 games ahead of them in the sixth spot, and Bulls behind them at 20.5 games behind. The Sixers and the Bulls play this Friday, the last game in the spectrum(will have actual coverage after that game). They Sixers have a pretty nice schedule for week ahead playing Thunder tonight, Raptors on Wednesday, Bulls on Friday, and finally Heat on Sunday. The Sixers could even catch the Heat if they get on a run this week. Since Heat in fifth place are only 2 games ahead of Sixers. Let's see what happens this week.

Mannywood

Manny Ramirez and the LA Dodgers finally agree to a two year forty five million dollar contract that that has been on the table for almost four months. Manny can void the second season and become a free agent again after this season. Manny and his super agent Scott Boras take their lumps, and take a hit, not getting the 100 million dollar four year contract that they demanded at the start of free agency.

NHL Trade Deadline Moves

This is just the list of moves from the trade deadline yesterday. I'm amazed at how many playoff contenders made moves, and how the Coyotes seem to be doing a complete overhaul.

Senators picked up Pascal Leclaire and a 2009 second round pick from Blue Jackets for Antoine Vermette.

Flames picked up Jordan Leopold from Avalanche for Lawrence Nycholat, Ryan Wilson, and 2009 second round pick.

Penguins picked up Andy Wozniewski from Blues for Danny Richmond.

Sabres picked up Mikael Tellqvist from Coyotes for a 2010 fourth round pick.

Bruins picked up Steve Montador from Ducks for Petteri Nokelainen.

Calgary picked up Olli Jokinen and 2009 third round pick from Coyotes for Matthew Lombardi, Brandon Prust, and first round pick in 2009 or 2010.

Bruins picked up Mark Recchi and 2010 second round pick from Lighting for Matt Lashoff and Martins Karsums.

Penguins picked up Bill Guerin from Islanders for a conditional 2009 draft pick.

Flyers picked up Daniel Carcillo from Coyotes for Scottie Upshall and second round pick.

Rangers picked up Nik Antropov from Maple Leafs for second round pick and conditional draft pick.

Rangers picked up Derrek Morris from Coyotes for Dmitri Kalinin, Petr Prucha, and Nigel Dawes.

Sabres picked up Dominic Moore from Maple Leafs for a second round pick.

Ducks picked up Erik Christensen from Thrashers for Eric O'Dell.

Panthers picked up Steve Eminger from Lighting for Noah Welch and third round pick.

Blue Jackets picked up Kevin Lalande from Calgary for fourth round pick.

Flyers picked up Kyle McLaren from Sharks for sixth round pick.

Oilers picked up Ales Kotalik from Sabres for second round pick.

Maple Leafs picked up Olaf Kolzig, Jamie Heward, Andy Rodgers, and fourth round pick from Lighting for Richard Petiot.

That is all the moves made before the deadline of 3 p.m. yesterday after noon. Some I'm still scratching my head on but that's alright. I'm sure the teams GM's know what they are doing.

Dawkins Gone....?

Brian Dawkins who has played in more games as an Eagles then any other Eagle in history, decided to make an odd move on Saturday. Dawkins signed with the Broncos on Saturday shocking all of Philadelphia and the rest of the football world. The Broncos gave him a contract for 5 years at 17 million with a 2 year termination in there also. The Eagles did though make up for a aging offensive line by signing Stacy Andrews, who is Shawn Andrews brother, making it a family offensive line. Eagles also traded away Lito Shepperd to the Jets for draft picks. Joselio Hanson was signed by the Eagles for 5 years. The Eagles also lost another veteran safety with Sean Considine going to Jacksonville.
