Insiders report the Atlanta Falcons' general manager Thomas Dimitroff is looking to shop around the trade right to former NFL star Michael Vick. Vick is currently serving time in a federal prison on charges related to dog fighting. Vick is scheduled to be released in July.
Vick's contract runs out in 2013, and says he will receive a base salary of $9 million with a bonus of $6.43 million in 2009. The rest of his contract is worth $43.11 million with an extra $3 million in Pro Bowl bonuses.
"We feel a trade is the best move for the Falcons, and it's also in the best interest for Michael. This has been a really unique situation from a variety of standpoints and because we will actively be involved in a trade situation, I don't envision our organization speaking any more about this subject publicly until it's reached a resolution," said Dimitroff.
Many teams could be interested in taking Vick being only a quarterback away from a playoff birth. One rumor going around is that the Minnesota Vikings could be first inline for the Vick rights. Many NFL analysts feel that the only piece to the puzzle that the Vikings are missing are in the quarterback position since their failed experiment with Tarvaris Jackson.
